My front door suddenly stopped locking from the outside (the thumbturn on the inside continued to operate), so I called Oliver Locksmiths after seeing positive reviews mentioning quick and affordable work. To have a locksmith arrive within half an hour of calling late in the evening was very positive. I asked what the fee would be during my initial call and was told they would need to see the lock first but that small jobs would be £45. In fact, the call out fee was £45 + VAT, regardless of any work being done, which could and should have been explained clearly upfront. The locksmith worked quickly and got the barrel out and confirmed we needed to replace it. But unfortunately that was the last of the positive experience. He quoted a replacement of the same 3-star Yale platinum euro cylinder as £543 (inclusive of VAT and the call out fee)!! He said that a lower standard barrel would be a little cheaper, but that even the cheapest option would be around £270 to fit. We said no thank you and paid the call out fee. Needless to say, we bought a replacement 3-star Yale platinum euro cylinder from Screwfix with thumbturn and 3 keys for £61 and replaced it ourselves easily the next day. We just followed a great 3-minute YouTube video - it was a very simple replacement. Conclusion: I'm happy for all the customers who received reasonably priced quotes, but we did not. It worked out in the end because we ended up doing the replacement ourselves for a fraction of the cost. I've given 2 stars for the quick arrival late in the evening and efficient work (in spite of the exorbitant quote).

Advised on the phone that it was ok to pay after the locksmith attended and that it would cost £49, I wasn’t given any other indication of price. A locksmith from a different company arrived, who clearly had no knowledge of this and said the lock would have to be drilled and that would cost £160 alone and refused to do the work until I agreed to pay. If I had of known someone from a different company to the one I called and whose reviews I had read would be arriving, where I had no knowledge of the costs involved, then I simply would have called a different locksmith. Cost ended up being £220 just to open the door and they wanted to charge £379 just for the the replacement lock alone, which I declined.

Excellent service by Oliver Locksmith & Safes! I contacted first thing in the morning to arrange for a key to be cut. Despite being swamped with other orders and work, they were exceedingly quick and able to accommodate me the same morning. Very professional and excellent communication skills. I wish I could rate it higher than 5 stars!
